Unveiling the Why: My Journey to Choosing a BS in Psychology

As a STEM student in Junior High, I felt many expectations and the pressure that we should already have a career in mind. I had a hard time then, I was indecisive, I was only a kid trying to focus on my present problem, studying, and hanging around, watching YT videos. But who would've thought at the time of the pandemic that while watching YT videos I got more interested in psychology; the study of the mind and behavior.

Why psychology? Why choose a path that delves into the intricate and complicated workings of the human mind when there are numerous other possibilities available in the academic world? The answer, lies in the shadows of my journey—hidden layers waiting to be unveiled, one revelation at a time. Initially, the channel that I thoroughly enjoyed was Cinematherapy, a YT channel that has a licensed therapist and a professional filmmaker breaking down movies; the plots, themes, characters, and their behavior that we can use to improve and understand our mental health. This Channel truly helped me understand not only the characters in the movie and others but also myself. Then I advanced to watching video essays, lectures, and documentaries related to psychology further sparking a flame that refused to be extinguished—a flame that burned brighter with every passing moment. Thus here I am now a Senior High school student trying to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology. Additionally, this realization went beyond academic curiosity and involved a deep understanding of both myself and other people that went beyond the ordinary. As this journey unfolds, join me in the revelation of the what— the strand to choose, the move to make.
