STEM vs. HUMSS: The Battle for My Academic Destiny

A shocking realization struck me like a lightning bolt as the sound of career advice echoed in my ears: I was standing on the edge of two distinct strands, each beckoning with its own set of uncertainties and promises. My academic fate appeared to rest on selecting between the depths of HUMSS and the logical complexities of STEM.

Initially, it appeared that STEM fields were ideal for bright, driven minds. I was always drawn to STEM fields, but as my interest in psychology grew, I came to a realization. I searched quite far and wide for which strand is better, some said it is STEM because of the science and math subjects, and some said HUMSS because it includes topics like counseling.

HUMSS, often underestimated and overshadowed, whispered to me about critical thinking, and understanding the human experience. It went beyond simply learning facts; it was about deciphering emotions, unraveling narratives, and exploring the very essence of humanity.

The struggle for my academic fate was taking place in the back of my mind. Is it better to follow whispers of the humanities or give in to the logical appeal of STEM? Making this choice was about more than just my two years of senior high school; it was about developing a career path that aligned with my passion and goals.

Even though STEM seems more beneficial, I chose HUMSS over it because it seems like I will enjoy it more. Embark on a journey into the depths of my HUMSS adventure as I unravel the layers of psychology, self-discovery, and unexpected revelations. Join me in the next blog post,

where the pages of my academic narrative turn to reveal the fascinating chapters that shaped my understanding of the human mind.
